Lived experiences, not medical advice. For urgent symptoms, call your oncology team or emergency services.

Been There

About

Our mission

Been There exists to preserve the human side of childhood cancer.

Been There exists to preserve the human side of childhood cancer — the things families often want to ask at night, after the clinical conversation is over.

Oncology teams give families expert medical care. What they can’t always give is the perspective of someone who has sat in the same fold-out chair. That is what this community is for.

What we value

  • Compassion — every family is doing their best.
  • Truthfulness — honest experiences, without false hope or fear.
  • Humility — we share what happened to us, never what your child’s team should do.
  • Privacy — pseudonyms by default, and no identifying details about children.
  • Community — parents, survivors and siblings, together.

Been There is not a medical service. Treatment decisions and urgent concerns belong with your child’s oncology team.
